It’s been a hot summer and the 2020 harvest season is well underway. Hopefully the weather is cooperating for all of you. Agricultural Real Estate has kept a steady pace this year. There are interesting opportunities surfacing and we are always looking for new opportunities to introduce to our existing clients. Agricultural businesses in need of growth are something we are keenly looking for. Also, we have been very successful in selling large blocks of land and always on the lookout for more. A Message from Philip

Time for a breather …

This is when most in the industry try to spend a bit of quality time with their family. I wish all of you a great summer in whatever you are doing right now. I know every year is a bit different, maybe you are tiling or building a new structure, but it is a good time to think about your land and how your operation is functioning.

Does it need improvement? Do you need more land? Are you thinking about selling a distant parcel and replacing it with that farm down the road? Renting more land on a long-term basis or renting out your farm? Transitioning to the younger generation? Getting access to irrigation? Or are you considering specialty crops and maybe getting into that niche market you have been thinking about all these years? Whatever your plans are there is a real good chance we can help.

Every year I am especially impressed with farmers that are doing something no one else has thought of. Whether it is cold pressed oil from pumpkins or the Three Farmers Brand Camelina oil that a group of ladies from Saskatchewan have developed and are selling in over two thousand stores in Canada. They worked hard to make this happen against a lot of adversity. You can find their story in the latest FCC Knowledge Newsletter. What can you, your family and your farm produce? I believe this question is an important one that should be reviewed every year.

It might just lead to an exciting challenge and increased profits.

Driving through Ontario’s countryside this time of year and seeing the beauty and bounty of the crops is one of my favourite things. Spending Saturday mornings at my local market in Goderich provides me with all the produce I could possibly need. Firmly Rooted Farm is one of the vendors at the market and this young couple with their young son in tow and another on the way are the ideal representation of what can be done on a small organic farm. Their tenacity and passion for growing has managed to satisfy many customers in Huron County.
