Norfolk County

Norfolk County is known for its attraction to boaters and fishers. Located on the Northern shoreline of Lake Erie it consists of these beach towns. Port Dover, Long Point, Simcoe, Delhi, Waterford, Port Rowan & Turkey Point. Turkey Point is known for having the largest freshwater marina in Canada. Port Dover is recently infamous for its attraction to motorcycle enthusiasts.

Norfolk County's soil type is mostly sandy loam, one of the most fertile land in Ontario. With a lengthy growing season and a mild climate, the region has long been the centre of the Ontario tobacco belt. However, many farmers have begun the process of diversifying their crop selections to include fruits and vegetables as tobacco consumption continues to decrease. Norfolk is Canada’s number one grower of asparagus, tart cherries, ginseng, peppers, pumpkins, squash, and zucchini. It is also Ontario’s number one grower of cabbage and strawberries. This likely has to do with having the University of Guelph’s research station, Ontario’s ministry of agriculture, and Food and Rural Affairs Resource Centre all within the community. If you’re looking for a place to be near progressive and innovative farmers with a short drive to the waterfront this might be the place for you.
